Centre for Perceptual and Interactive Intelligence (CPII)

Director: Prof Helen MENG

Company

Since its inception, the Centre for Perceptual and Interactive Intelligence's (CPII) mission has been to make use of Hong Kong's international research networks for AI talent development and exchange, nurture AI start-ups and bring academic outcomes to meet industrial demands. With strong capabilities in computer vision, multilingual speech and language technologies, natural language processing, and AI-enabled design automation, CPII will efficiently connect research with industry to accelerate social implementation.

1) CPII's team in Spoken Language Research participated in the SciTech Challenge 2021 and won the championship with the entry entitled "Dysarthric Speech Reconstruction". The project aligns well with the commitment of our Centre to advance AI-enabled perceptual and interactive technologies for societal benefits.
2) CPII’s team in Machine-learning Enable Automation Processes and Prototyping participated the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva and wone the Gold Medal Award with the Ultrafast Oscillating Blade Microtome Technology. This invention can help address key challenges in novel bio-imaging applications, creating huge market value for the pathology and biophotonics industries.
3) CPII's team in Spoken Language Research participated in the 2022 DialDoc Workshop organized by The Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL). The team developed a dialog system and competed in the Shared Task. The CPII system ranks FIRST in the SEEN test, SECOND in the UNSEEN test, and achieve the BEST system overall.
